John Unger has a 19 year old shepherd mix dog named Schoepp. Unger lives in Wisconsin and is able to ease the pain of the severe arthritis in his elderly dog by taking him for swims in Lake Superior.  Hannah Stonehouse Hudson took a photo of Unger and Schoepp in Lake Superior in 2012 that captured the hearts of millions. After the photo was shared on Facebook it went viral and over 3 million people shared it, making it one of the top social media moments in 2012. Here is the story behind the photo.  



The photo has led to John Unger being able to start a foundation. "The Schoepp Legacy Foundation has raised more than $25,000 to help low-income families care for their aging dogs thanks to donations from people as far away as Saudi Arabia and Japan, all inspired by the gorgeous image (Source)."
